1 Month Old!

Mason turned 1 month today and we survived! I do mean survived as it has been a hard transition going from 1 kid to 2. Ethan himself is pretty easy and Mason is too (for a newborn) but the combination of them together is what is draining. I don't have much "me" time at all and when I do get a shower, I have to take Ethan in the bathroom with me and bring some toys so he doesn't go and bother Mason. I have started hiding Mason from Ethan throughout the day because he wants to love on him ALL THE TIME and most of that means he gets woken up from naps.

Here are a few things we've learned about our new little man this month:
1. Still not going very long at night between feedings. His longest stretch is about 5 hours from 9 pm to 2 am. After that he wants to eat every 2 or 3 hours.
2. He fights his naps and gets very fussy when he's tired.
3. He loves being talked to and is starting to respond to my voice. Hopefully we'll get some smiles soon. :)
4. He loves being held.
5. He sleeps on his tummy-don't tell the doctor!!
6. Getting better at taking a bottle, but needs to be super hungry to do it.
7. I'm hoping by the end of his second month, Mason will be sleeping through the night or at least close!!!! I have been sticking to BabyWise in hopes of this!
8. At his 2 week check-up, he weighed 7 pounds 10 ounces, up from 6.11 in the hospital. We go back at 6 weeks for shots and another check-up.
9. Still sleeps in the basinet in our room at night but takes naps in his crib now.

Ethan has regressed a little and has been climbing into Mason's basinet, swing, car seat, bouncy seat, etc. He has also been sucking on a paci which he hasn't done since he was 3 months old! Hoping this little phase will be short-lived.

Our Boys

Well, Mason is 2 weeks old now and life is starting to settle into a routine. Ethan is a GREAT big brother so far! At first, he didn't know how to be gentle, but he is quickly learning and is so sweet, always wanting to "hold him" and give him kisses. He was a little jealous at first but he's getting used to having Mason around the house now.

Mason seems to be a pretty easy-going baby, besides not wanting to take a bottle. We will have to work on that!!

We are pretty bored around the house but hopefully soon I will feel brave enough to venture out with both boys and won't worry about all those germs.

Enjoy the pics!

Mason Laurence Gobar

Mason arrived on Monday, May 30th at 6:35 pm, weighing 6 pounds, 15 ounces, and 19 1/4 inches. It was definitely a surprise, as I was scheduled for an induction on June 6th!

Since it was Memorial Day, we had the day off so we were out and about running errands that morning. We had stopped to eat lunch at Double Daves and then went home so Ethan could take a nap. I decided to lie down too, and it was then that the contractions started. I had been having them on and off for a few weeks, so I didn't think much of it. I took a bath to see if that would help. They were getting more intense, so I called my doctor to see what she thought. She said I needed to get to the hospital right away to get checked out. Jake took Ethan to his parents' house and then we were on our way. We half-expected to be sent home, but sure enough, I was in labor!

About 2 hours later, my sweet Mason was born! Thank goodness for a short labor, because the epidural didn't work on my left side and I felt EVERYTHING! We are so blessed with 2 healthy, beautiful boys. Ethan is already in love with baby brother. He wants to kiss and hold him all the time....he's not very gentle, so we will be working on that! :)

Here I am with my mittens so I don't scratch my face
